Summer Essentials, the Onolla edit.
STAYCATION OR VACATION? wHETHER YOU'RE STAYING PUT THIS SUMMER OR VENTURING ABROAD, THE ONOLLA TEAM ARE SHARING THEIR SUMMER MUST-HAVE'S.
Suzanne's staycation soap bag
Pampering yourself is just as much about how it makes you feel as look and it makes sense to throw some self-care luxuries as well as necessities in your soap bag for your summer break, whatever that means for you this year. After all, a holiday is about making time for you. This summer I have decided to pass-up the uncertainty and airport queues of a holiday abroad for some wilder breaks closer to home from glamping in Dorset to a fitness reset with loads of hiking at Yeotown, my favourite health retreat and a couple of seriously luxe overnights at hotels with fantastic grounds to roam through nature like Beaverbrook. Wherever I am, these beauties are coming with me....
Given the inclement of the British weather system, The Organic Pharmacy, Cellular Protection Sunscreen is a must. It's a mineral sunscreen so has immediate effect so you throw it in your handbag and apply when the sun decides to come out.
A bit of a holiday glow makes you feel great wherever you are, and The Organic Pharmacy Self Tan goes everywhere with me (I even took it glamping!) It smells wonderful, is super hydrating, blends like a dream and develops in just 3 hours, leaving skin smelling fresh and feeling smooth, supple and hydrated with a healthy looking tan.
SHOP OFFER ALERT!
This Summer we're treating you to 50% off our favourite facials and wellbeing scan at The Organic Pharmacy when you spend £50 or more from their range of skin, body and make-up must-haves on Onolla so buy now and treat yourself to a facial that will make you look like you have just got back from a spa break.
Hayo'u gua sha ritual is THE best way to relax the Zoom lines and computer screen tension face. Facial gua sha really is a game-changer taking as little as 1 minute a day. It has the most incredible effect on microcirculation, the system just underneath the skin that transports oxygen and nutrients to the blood and removes toxins.
Studies have shown that facial gua sha increases microcirculation by 400%, flooding the skin with fresh nutrients. Over time, this increases levels of both collagen and elastin. Done regularly, gua sha smooths, lifts, plumps and contours the skin, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Read more here.
Wether you are glamping, on and off trains or long trips up the motorway, you can't beat a hand wash for an instant hit of freshness.
I love Kelpology Clean Skin Hand Wash to sanitise and soothe whilst on the go, it contains soap for eliminating viruses and bacteria, as well as kelp to ensure your hands stay soft and soothed.
Healthy, clean feet pep up any pair of sandals and this capsule collection set of best-selling products contains a 45ml version of the Intensive Hydrating Foot Lotion and Hydrating Foot Soak, a 30ml Intensive Treatment Foot Oil and 30ml Exfoliating Foot Mousse. Believe me, this is the best value, easiest, fastest way to transform dry, dull achey feet.
Ilapothecary Beat the Blues pulse point is my version of perfume with an alchemical blend of essential oils that are known to balance the mood, boost self-esteem, ease frustration and to help revitalize and stimulate happiness. It contains happy-making geranium, a green floral brimming with lemon and rose undertones; enlivening clary sage and its musky sweetness and petitgrain, a plant that is believed to protect against mental anguish, help release anger, and heal emotional wounds. This citrus, fresh, floral, woodsy and herbal oil helps us ‘be’ rather than ‘do’. Known for its releasing self-accepting angelic fragrance.
Eliza's vacation must-haves.
I have risked the chopping and changing for a few blissful days away in the Ibizan sunshine, relaxing, reading, eating and doing a whole lot of nothing. Well-worth the relentless testing and unexpected quarantine...(just about!)
When I travel, my skincare comes with me, it's a non-negotiable, but with the 100ml limit some editing is involved. But it's not only about beauty, holiday to me has to involve a mind refresh too so a good book is also a self-care must-have! I'm currently loving Let My People Go Surfing: The Education of a Reluctant Businessman by Yvon Chouinard (the founder of Patagonia) and Atomic Habits by James Clear. Not my typical fluffy fiction reads but this year I needed more of a deep and meaningful beach read.
Here's what came with me:
Going from the lovely British summer we're having to the intense Spanish sun was a shock to the system and my face took the hit. Sun cream, leftover makeup, sand and sweat are not conducive to glowy holiday skin so properly exfoliating to avoid blocked pores and congested skin is a must. The Active Repair Radiance Polisher from Wildsmith is one of my favourites and is gentle enough to be used once a week (don’t go overboard, if your skin is overly sensitive, using a muslin cloth and warm water to wash off your cleanser will do the trick)
I have very sensitive skin so the combination of sun cream, chlorine and sea water often leaves me with very red and irritated skin. I like to cleanse morning and night and find that The Clear Skin Vitamin Sea Facial Wash, with hand-harvested Organic Kelp, is the perfect soothing cleanser that cleans without stripping my skin. This one is only 100ml so can be chucked in a beach bag for on-the-go use.
We all want to come home looking bronzed and sun-kissed but not at the expense of toasting your face in the sun. It's not worth it, plus that’s what fake tan is for. A real hero product of mine and now an essential step in my routine is hyaluronic acid. This one from The Organic Pharmacy has a witch hazel water active base and is the key to plump, smooth skin and gives intense hydration at all levels of the skin.
I have struggled to find a moisturiser that actually gives you the nourishment without being heavy and cakey, especially when you throw sun cream and makeup into the mix. The Protecting Day Cream with Blue Tansy Oil from Rhug Wild Beauty is one of the best I'’ve tried and I’ve tried my fair share. A super hydrating cream that targets wrinkles and dehydration (ideal after a day squinting in the sun). It’s not cheap I know but use sparingly because a little goes a long way, it’s a worthwhile investment.
When I travel, I have to bring a hair product of some kind that will tame the frizz and withstand humidity. I find most hair products are either over 100ml or come in clunky bottles that just aren't practical to pack which is why I love these two products so much. Yes they are seriously nourishing hair oils, but they can also be used on your face and body.
The La-Eva Jasmina Oil smells divine (you will undoubtedly be complemented), it isn't greasy and really smooths out your hair instantly. I often use it as a body oil and take any remaining product through the ends of my hair which is just the right amount to add a nice shine.
The Modern Botany Multi-Tasking Oil is another favourite because it's small enough to pop in a hand bag so you can touch up unruly fly-aways throughout the day or night and a real life saver for those with curly, frizzy hair.
